Introduction

Human beings have always been thinking of how to protect their nakedness, to be comfortable and feel good. From pre-historic time to date, clothing, being one of the basic needs of mankind, has undergone a lot of revolutions; from the using of leaves and animal skin as covers, to weaving of cellulose fibres into fabrics.

In the primitive time, people only thought of covering their private part, mostly from the waist to the knee (Nelson (2002) and Cox and Dittmar (1995).

The top which is the bodice is not given much attention. Clothing moved from the purpose of covering and protection to such things as priesthood, status symbolism and uniforms for identity.

Weber (1990) asserted that clothing is for modesty, psychological desire for adornment for eitherstatus, ceremonial use, group identity, sex attraction or self-expression.

Thus, as knowledge advanced, clothing moved from just to cover nakedness to other functions in life such as weather conditions, occupations and recreations among others.
