Abstract

The study was carried out to determine entrepreneurial skills needed by students in radio and television for establishing small and medium scale enterprises. Five research questions guided the study while five null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance.

The study adopted survey research design. The population for the study comprised 32 teachers of radio and television and 44 radio and television technicians.

There was no sampling because of the manageable size of the population. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire. Three experts validated the instrument.

Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument and 0.82 reliability coefficient was obtained.

Introduction

Technical colleges are the institutions established by government to equip individuals with skills in various occupations. Okoro (2006) stated that technical colleges are regarded as the principal vocational institutions in Nigeria that give full vocational training intended to prepare students for entry into various occupations as artisans and craftsmen.

Alade, Ayodele and Ayodele (2010) described technical colleges as institutions where students are trained to acquire relevant knowledge and skills in different occupations for employment in the world of work. They give full vocational training intended to prepare individuals for entry into various occupations.

Technical colleges are the post primary schools where students are trained to acquire relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes in a chosen occupation or trade at craft level (Bakare, 2012). One of such trades is radio and television.

Radio and Television (RTV) is a trade in technical college that exposes individuals to skills and knowledge on how to diagnose and repair faults in radio and television sets. Radio and television was incorporated in to the curriculum of technical colleges in Nigeria in order to expose students to various skills.
