Abstract

Introduction

The rule of law is one of the most important and essential principles of a true democratic regime which is embedded in the constitution of the state.

The rule of law implies the supremacy of the laws of the land whereas everybody is under the law, both the rulers and the ruled, and should appear before the court of competent jurisdiction when needed and be tried without fear or favour.

However, the proponents of this concept are scholars such  as Aristotle and Dicey, thus, many modern theorists, writers and pronouncement of courts have elucidated the contemporary position of the rule of law.

To this, Aristotle strongly advocates   that the rule of law is imperative and preferable to any individual; man according to him when perfected is the best of all animals but when separated from law the worst of all.

Similarly, A.V. Dicey argued that the rule of law is the supremacy of regular law as opposed to arbitrary power of the government, also the rule of law according to him is the equality of everybody before the law including the ruling class.
