Abstract<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

This study assessed principals\u2019 leadership styles on the management of Federal Unity Colleges in North-Central Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria. <\/span><\/p>\n

Seven research questions were formulated and seven null hypotheses were stated and tested to answer the research questions. The research design adopted was descriptive survey carried out ex post facto.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study population schools comprised all the 24 Unity Schools in the Zone. Out of this population, a sample of 12 Unity Schools was taken and selected through the systematic sampling technique. <\/span><\/p>\n

Out of the 2,345 staff (including principals) in the sampled schools, a sample size of 245staff was selected using stratified proportional random sampling techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n

Introduction<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Education in Nigeria is an instrument for effecting National Development. The\u00a0<\/span>country\u201fs<\/span>\u00a0educational goals have been set out in the National Policy on Education (NPE) in terms of their relevance to the needs of the individual and the society (Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2013). <\/span><\/p>\n

Towards this end, the NPE sets up certain aims and objectives which were to facilitate educational development in the Country. <\/span><\/p>\n

In fostering these aims and objectives, the school Principals have important roles to play. <\/span>Among these roles is to provide Effective Leadership in secondary schools, thereby enhancing better job performance among staff and improving the academic performance of their students. <\/span><\/p>\n

How effective the Principal is in performing this role has been a matter of concern to many educationists (<\/span>Olubadewo<\/span>, 1992;\u00a0<\/span>Aghenta<\/span>, 2000;\u00a0<\/span>Ige<\/span>, 2001).<\/span><\/p>\n
