Abstract<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

The study investigated the supervisory roles of principals for quality education. The main purpose of the study was to find out supervisory roles of principals for quality assurance in secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The study adopted five research questions and four null hypotheses.<\/p>\n

A descriptive survey research design was adopted; the population of the study was 7,602 principals and teachers of public secondary schools in the capital territory.<\/p>\n

Multi stage sampling procedure was adopted to select 40% of public secondary schools using the simple random sampling technique by balloting without replacement. The sample for the study was 10% of the total population for responses to the questionnaire.<\/p>\n

The selection of eight teachers for the focus group discussion was purposively carried out via non-probability technique by panel sampling from the senior secondary schools in a zone.<\/p>\n

Nigeria has a vision of becoming one of the 20th<\/sup> developed economies by the year 2020. In order to achieve this, she has identified quality education standard.<\/p>\n

The notion of quality education standard encompasses quality learning resources inputs, instructional process, teachers\u2019 capacities development, effective management, monitoring and evaluation, and quality learning outcomes in Secondary Schools (Ayeni, 2012).<\/p>\n

This necessitated the application of quality system management standard in the education sector. Quality system management standard in the education sector is supervised from the Ministry of Education, the Boards and right in the schools.<\/p>\n

Supervision can be considered from the point of activities directed towards teachers for stimulating professional skills and competencies as a means of promoting instructional effectiveness. In carry out supervisory roles, the system adopts a two dimensional approach namely; the external supervision approach and the internal supervision approach.<\/p>\n
