EL-USB-<\/p>\n

CO analyzer used for the analysis indicated variations in the levels of CO for the period of study. The results obtained revealed that the concentrations of CO in high traffic (HT) area is higher than that of low traffic\u00a0 (LT) and is unacceptable compared with the Federal Environmental Protection agency (FEPA) Nigeria set limit.<\/p>\n

Air pollution is associated with increasing cases of many adverse health effects, e.g.\u00a0 mortality,\u00a0 respiratory\u00a0 diseases\u00a0 and\u00a0 cancer.\u00a0 The\u00a0 chemical\u00a0 composition\u00a0 of ambient\u00a0 air\u00a0 is\u00a0 very\u00a0 complex\u00a0 and\u00a0 depends \u00a0on\u00a0 many\u00a0 different\u00a0 factors,\u00a0 traffic generated air pollution being a major source in large cities.<\/p>\n

This is especially true in\u00a0 the\u00a0 developing\u00a0 world,\u00a0 mainly\u00a0 due\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 high\u00a0 proportion\u00a0 of\u00a0 old,\u00a0 poorly maintained vehicles, the abundance of two stroke vehicles and the poor fuel quality (Baumbach et al., 1995; Gwilliam 2003). All these factors contribute to one of the major air pollutant in urban areas; carbon monoxide (CO).<\/p>\n

CO is a poisonous, colorless, inevitable gas that has neither taste nor smell. It is formed when carbon burns with too little air (incomplete combustion) (Smith and Scott, 2002). Carbon monoxide (CO), also called Carbonious oxide or Carbon (II) Oxide and is slightly lighter than air.<\/p>\n

CO is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas, produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels, including coal, wood, charcoal, oil, kerosene, propane, and natural gas. Products and equipments and machines powered by internal combustion engines such as portable generators, cars, lawn mowers, and power washers also produce CO.<\/p>\n
