UNIUYO Courses

The University of Uyo is in Uyo, the capital of Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State. Also, the university was previously known as Cross River State University. The Federal Government of Nigeria designated it as a Federal University on October 1, 1991, and the name changed to the University of Uyo.

The University inherited the students, faculty, academic programmes, and all the facilities of the former University of Cross River State, which was founded in 1983 by the state of Cross River.

Interestingly, the University of Uyo underwent various transformations. It progressed from a Teacher’s College (TC) to an Advanced Teacher’s College (ATC), a College of Education (COE) that became an affiliate of the University of Port Harcourt to provide degree programmes, a State University (UNICROSS), and finally to its current status in 1991.

During the 1991/92 school year, academic activity began. There are 13 faculties, a postgraduate school, and a School of Continuing Education at the University of Uyo.

Also, the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) accredits the University of Uyo.
